Mt. Everest

A recent visit to Colorado has "peaked" my interest in mountains. I have always loved the view of mountains and even better the view from the top. Hearing stories of hiking, climbers, and just the sight of the mountains makes me want to climb them myself.

I think mountains are one of the most beautiful creations God has given us (along with ocean/ waterfalls/ a field of wildflowers... etc.) I would absolutely love to climb a mountain. I don't care if I have to start out small with a hike to 9,000 feet or what, but this is something I've got to do in my lifetime. The Rocky Mountain range is beautiful. While in CO, Long's Peak has been in the forefront of my view. According to this site it is 14,255 feet tall. Which got me thinking how tall is Everest?

Check out these incredible facts. They blew my mind. Such an incredible feat that so many have conquered and unfortunately others have not. I could not imagine what that experience would do for your spiritual life. I'm sure I'd be that much more closer to my Creator even by the time I would make it to the base camp (which is just at 17,500 feet) for my perspective that is taller than Mt. Rainer (14,410 ft) and taller than Long's Peak (14,255 ft). Even if you set Long's Peak on top of Mt. Rainer, Mt. Everest has that beat still by 370 ft! That's huge!
Fascinating. Incredible.

I mean that is a life or death adventure/choice. This is not a spur of the moment decision "I'm going to climb Everest!" Not only does it cost as much as a luxury car to get you there, gear, guides, etc. But this is a serious decision that many people choose to do.

More Facts:
*Approximately 6,000 climbers have attempted the summit of Everest, but only 2,249 have made it.
Over 200 people have died trying and of those, at least 120 bodies are still missing on the mountain.

*Mount Everest is just one of over 30 peaks in the Himalayas that are over 24,000 ft/7315m high.

*The Himalayas is the world's highest mountain range comprising all top ten of the world's highest peaks. In fact, the Himalayas includes 14 peaks more than 8,000 meters high and some 200 more than 6000 meters.

computer troubled

thanks to my Grandma for another email forward I thought was funny enough to share.

I was having trouble with my computer. So I called Eric, the 11 year old next door, whose bedroom looks like Mission Control and asked him to come over. Eric clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem.

As he was walking away, I called after him, 'So, what was wrong?' He replied, 'It was an ID ten T error.'
I didn't want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired, 'An, ID ten T error? What's that? In case I need to fix it again.' Eric grinned.... 'Haven't you ever heard of an ID ten T error before?' 'No,' I replied. 'Write it down,' he said, 'and I think you'll figure it out.'

So I wrote down: I D 1 0 T

as I was searching for a picture to add, I came across this article about the face of Mac, Justin Long, who apparently is computer illiterate himself. Kind of funny.

Steve Jobs

I had heard Steve Jobs' name (CEO, chairman and co-founder of Apple Inc., and founder of Pixar Animation Studios) twice the past few days, so I thought I would google his name to see a picture of him. I came across this video of him speaking at Stanford University Commencement in 2005.
I thought this was interesting, somewhat inspiring, and overall good enough to blog it.

It is true how we can only connect the dots when we are looking back.
I thought the worst line in the speech was "Death is very likely the single best invention of life." (12:10) I don't know though, the more I think of it...("it clears out the old to make way for the new" is somewhat true...) I wonder what God would think of that line. Let me hear your opinion! And boy, I'm glad that I don't fear death! I look forward to Heaven! Romans 5
another quote I'm not so sure about: "Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose."
BEST quote: "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life." (12:30)
"Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice"
Other than this video, I know nothing about him. Actually, the first time I heard his name and learned he was a CEO of Apple was on Saturday.
I only have one request Steve, can I have a mac?... and an ipod... and like a year's worth of free music from itunes?..... j/k. not really.

Prayer for Senility

God grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the difference.

makeovers

I used to really love to watch makeovers on TV. There used to be a show called "Ambush Makeover" I forget what channel had it on, I'm thinking upn or something. It was on a few years back came on during the day, it was a half hour show they did two makeovers, 15 mins each and they had 2-3 hours to makeover someone. They would literally 'ambush' someone on the street in Chicago, or LA... wherever, and give them a new outfit, new hair, new make up. and then the cameras would follow them when they would be finished and would be on their way to meet someone later for dinner or whatever.
Now, there's "Take Home Chef" with the "dreamy" chef __ what's his name? An Aussie who moved to England and worked in London a bit, now is doing this show for TLC in L.A.
ambush... surprise... makeovers. oh what fun.

here's one I found on you tube!

here's another one...

so do you think the ambushes were set up?

My Mother Dearest

Happy Birthday Mo-mma!
My mother is the prettiest lady, inside & out. She is the sweetest, nicest genuine person I think I've ever known. (thanks for the youthful genes too! ;) )
I am proud of my mom, thankful for her. Growing up she never spoke harshly to me (at least I don't remember a time!) She always spoke loving kind words. Always was patient and I am grateful for that.
Mom, I love you. I stand up and call you blessed!

...a couple fun facts about my mom:
  • she whistles or hum's all the time.
  • is pretty much always happy. (living up to her name... Joy!)
  • always is encouraging.
  • ends a lot of her sentences with a question, "yes that is very interesting, isn't it?"
  • is a devoted and committed wife, mother, & grandmother.
Mom, I love ya!!
